GENOA – A Sycamore woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital after her car struck another vehicle from behind and hit a semi truck near the intersection of Route 23 and Lloyd Road after noon Thursday.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene about 12:18 p.m. Sgt. Ben Hiatt of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said a yellow 2003 Chevrolet Coupe heading north on Route 23 crashed into the back of a gray 2009 Chrysler Van just north of Lloyd Road and was then hit by the southbound semi.
The 2003 Chevrolet Coupe spun into a ditch on the right side of the road. The driver, Alyssa Zuberbier, 27, was taken to the hospital with an unspecified leg injury, Hiatt said. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.
Zuberbier faces a charge of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Genoa police and firefighters also responded to the scene. Police helped direct traffic, which narrowed to a single lane on the left side of Route 23 for about 20 minutes. Traffic was cleared in both lanes by 12:45 p.m.
