The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 13,012 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 126 additional deaths Friday, the third straight day with more than 100 deaths reported.
The last time there were three consecutive days of more than 100 COVID-19 deaths in Illinois was May 13-15.
The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased to 11.5%. The state received the results of 116,024 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Friday afternoon.
Illinois has seen 634,395 cases of the virus, and 11,304 people have died. The state has conducted 9,588,698 tests since the start of the pandemic.
As of late Thursday, Illinois had 6,111 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, setting another state record. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Illinois have increased each day for 26 consecutive days.
Of those hospitalizations, 1,196 were in intensive care units, and 604 were on ventilators.
Regional update: Currently, all 11 of the state’s health regions are under additional mitigation measures from the IDPH, and as of Friday, all 11 regions are under Tier 3 mitigations.
Regional data from IDPH remains on a three-day lag.
The North Suburban region (McHenry and Lake counties) has seen six days of positivity increases and six days of hospital admission increases, a decrease in both metrics. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 15.4%. Currently, 23% of medical/surgical beds are available and 35% of ICU beds.
Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 19.2%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 14.1%.
The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen six days of positivity increases and three days of hospital admission increases, a decrease in both metrics. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 14.6%. Currently, 19% of medical/surgical beds are available and 26% of ICU beds. Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 16.7%, and DuPage County is at 13.5%.
The South Suburban region (Will and Kankakee counties) has seen seven days of positivity increases and seven days of hospital admission increases. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 20.6%.
Currently, 11% of the region’s medical/surgical beds are available and 14% of ICU beds, below the state’s minimum threshold of 20%. Per IDPH, there are 22 ICU beds available out of 162 for Will and Kankakee counties combined.
The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen five days of positivity increases and six days of hospital admission increases, The region’s positivity rate decreased to 19.0%. Currently, 29% of medical/surgical beds are available and 30% of ICU beds.
Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate remained flat at 14.8%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 16.0%, and Whiteside County’s rate dropped to 22.8%.
The North-Central region (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) has seen six days of positivity increases and eight days of hospital admission increases, a decrease in both metrics. The region’s positivity rate decreased slightly to 16.6%. Currently, 30% of medical/surgical beds are available and 31% of ICU beds.
Within this region, La Salle county’s seven-day positivity rate dropped to 19.5%.
Chicago has seen six days of positivity increases and six days of hospital admission increases, a decrease in both metrics. The region’s positivity rate decreased slightly to 15.0%. Currently, 23% of medical/surgical beds are available and 27% of ICU beds.
Suburban Cook County has seen seven days of positivity increases and nine days of hospital admission increases. The region’s positivity rate decreased slightly to 15.5%. Currently, 22% of medical/surgical beds are available and 22% of ICU beds.
