SANDWICH – Five more people linked to Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to the DeKalb County Health Department Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 616.

All of Tuesday’s new reported cases were connected to the longterm care facility, which now has 15 cases (six in employees and nine in residents) and one death, a woman in her 90s announced Monday.

New cases include three in their 20s and two in their 80s or older.

Half of DeKalb County’s cases are in residents in their 30s or younger, with the largest age group being people in their 20s.

No new cases were reported locally in any of the other three long-term care facilities Monday. There are three cases, all among staff, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center and two cases among staff at Bethany Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

It’s unknown whether any cases in long-term care facilities across DeKalb County have fully recovered, since health officials do not release recovery data specific to case, only a gross number for the county.

As of Thursday (the most recent available data) 415 out of the county’s 611 cases have fully recovered. The positivity rate was 5.8% two weeks ago and 5.2% last week. Also as of Thursday, 12,221 tests were administered in the county, including 11,628 negative results.
