Toy gun puts 3 Plainfield 202 schools on Lockdown: disctrict

Three Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 schools were placed on lockdown Monday after someone saw what was believed to be a gun held out the window of a car driving on Essington Road, according to a message from the district.

Liberty Elementary School went into a hard lockdown and Eichelberger Elementary School and John F. Kennedy Middle School went into soft lockdowns about 2:45 p.m. “at the direction of local police,” the district said in a message Monday afternoon.

The lockdowns were directed by police after a “car was seen driving down Essington Road with a gun out the window,” the message said.

“Plainfield East was already out of school, but students who were outside were pulled inside and held in place,” the message said.

“The Bolingbrook and Plainfield Police quickly found and stopped the driver and school activities resumed around 2:55 p.m.,” the message said. “The gun turned out to be a toy gun.”
