Two injured, one charged for unsafe tires in rollover

GENOA – Two people were taken to the hospital after a single-car rollover crash Thursday night near the intersection of Melms Road and Route 23 north of Genoa.

DeKalb County Sheriff deputies responded to a call at 10:54 p.m. and found a blue Pontiac Sedan on its roof in a ditch on the opposite side of the road, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff news release.

The driver, Jair Hernandez of Harvard, and passenger, Pizano Maria of Genoa, were both transported to St. Anthony’s hospital.

The driver lost control of the vehicle after going onto the gravel shoulder of Route 23 and swerved across both lanes, according to the news release. The vehicle then flipped over several times.

Hernandez faces a charge of unsafe tires from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
