Two men shot at an object during Sunday's shots fired incident, said police chief

DeKALB – DeKalb interim Police Chief John Petragallo said two people involved in a shots fired incident in DeKalb on Sunday appeared to have shot at an object, not people.

Petragallo said video surveillance of from surrounding areas in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive early Sunday morning show two men firing multiple shots at an object.

He said police are investigating the incident, and are following leads and expect to make an arrest.

A safety bulletin posted Sunday by Northern Illinois University police described the incident as an aggravated assault and said it occurred at 3:12 a.m. Sunday. People were asked to avoid the area while the investigation was ongoing.

Contrary to what the bulletin said, Petragallo said the incident is not being ruled as an aggravated assault, because the shots were not fired at a person.
