DeKALB – Two people are injured after a shooting Monday afternoon outside the Hunter Ridgebrook Apartment complex, said DeKalb Police Cmdr. Craig Woodruff Monday.
“There were a couple of people injured,” Woodruff told a Daily Chronicle reporter on the scene around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
He said police believe the injuries are non-life-threatening, and that police are still piecing together what led to gunfire shortly before 1 p.m. in the residential neighborhood.
DeKalb police are asking residents to avoid the 800 block of Ridge Drive. Woodruff said it’s unclear whether the incident was isolated, or how many shots were fired.
“We’re still investigating,” Woodruff said.
Crime scene tape could be seen blocking the entrance to the apartment complex around 1:30 p.m. Monday, though no surrounding roads appear to be blocked off.
According to an alert sent out by Northern Illinois University police around 1 p.m. Monday, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 block of Ridge Drive around 12:58 p.m.
DeKalb police also sent a citywide alert out asking residents to avoid the area shortly before 1:15 p.m.
