UPDATE: 3 more residents, one more employee test positive for COVID-19 at Pine Acres; 44 cases in total

DeKALB – Three more residents and one more employee at Pine Acres Rehab and Living Center have tested positive for COVID-19 Friday, according to the DeKalb County Health Department, bringing the total number of cases linked to the longterm care facility to 44.

The death toll at the facility remains one, a DeKalb woman in her 70s reported to have died from complications due to the virus Thursday.

As of Friday, 34 residents and 10 employees of Pine Acres are confirmed to have the viral respiratory disease, after a jump in cases first announced Thursday. The first case at the facility was reported Saturday, and since that time families of residents and employees have contacted the Daily Chronicle concerned about the situation.

Pine Acres is a 119-bed capacity long-term care facility at 1212 S. Second St. in DeKalb. As of Thursday, the Pine Acres outbreak represents 10.3% of total cases in DeKalb County and 25% of all deaths.
