Update: Victim dies following late night shooting on Edgebrook Drive in DeKalb

DeKALB – A person who was shot in the stomach late Thursday on Edgebrook Drive in DeKalb has died, DeKalb Police Commander Bob Redel confirmed Friday.

Redel said he could not share additional details at this time, but did say the investigation is ongoing.

DeKalb police responded to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive Thursday. The department issued a safety alert shortly before midnight asking residents to avoid the area.

DeKalb interim Police Chief John Petragallo said officers were on the scene investigating, and said there did not appear to be any threat to the public.

Northern Illinois University police also issued a safety alert that said the shooting occurred at 11:18 p.m. Thursday and urging people to avoid the area.

Police blocked off the road at Edgebrook Drive and Normal Road before midnight Thursday, according to scanner traffic.

It’s unclear if there is more than one victim at this time, or what condition the gunshot victim is in.
