Veterans to stand guard at 24-hour vigil in Sycamore for Veterans Day

SYCAMORE – Honorably discharged military veterans have an opportunity to help stand guard at the Avenue of Flags during a 24-hour Veterans Vigil, beginning with an opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the DeKalb County Courthouse, 133 W. State St., Sycamore.

Multiple guards can stand each hour and there are spots available to stand, said event organizer Dwain Adkins.

The avenue is host to 140 flags – 135 of which are American flags and five of which are flags representing the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.

The flags will fly through Veterans Day on Monday.

The vigil itself begins at 4 p.m. Friday and will last through 4 p.m. Saturday.
