Woman hospitalized after 3-car crash on Peace Road

DeKALB – A woman was hospitalized Friday after a three-car collision on Peace Road between Lincoln Highway and Pleasant Street, police said.

The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. on the overpass where Peace goes above the railroad tracks. It involved a white Jeep SUV, a red Hyundai and a black Pontiac.

The driver of a red Hyundai, a woman who police did not immediately identify, was extricated from her vehicle by DeKalb firefighter/paramedics before she was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital for injuries suffered, DeKalb police officer Craig Woodruff said.

An attempt was made to call a medevac helicopter, but the craft couldn’t fly because of the weather conditions. The woman was taken by DeKalb ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital instead.

None of the other people involved in the collision required hospitalization, Woodruff said.

Woodruff said the woman was alert and talking at the hospital as of 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Both the Hyundai and the Pontiac had major front-end damage after the crash, police said. Northbound traffic merges from two lanes into one on the bridge.

Police blocked Peace Road from Pleasant Street to Lincoln Highway for about an hour and a half Friday as first responders handled the aftermath of the crash.

Police still were piecing together what caused the crash Friday evening. The road was closed between Pleasant and Lincoln Highway until about 5:20 p.m.
