Woman's car goes airborne in single-vehicle DeKalb crash that sends her to the hospital

DeKALB – A woman’s car went airborne Thursday morning after crashing into a fence in front of Flappy’s Pancake House on Sycamore Road.

The woman, who DeKalb police have not yet identified, was the driver and the only occupant of the red Toyota Rav 4. She was taken by DeKalb paramedics to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.

Her injuries are unknown, said DeKalb patrol officer Josh Boldt.

“It’s unknown at this time what caused her to come off the road,” Boldt said.

The woman was driving southbound on Sycamore Road around 11:30 a.m. when her car crossed all five lanes without hitting any other vehicles, crashed into the fence in front of Flappy’s, 1406 Sycamore Road next to the Jewel-Osco and across the street from Hopkins Park.

Her car went airborne before landing feet below on the underpass.

Lovett’s Towing was on the scene as she was taken to the hospital, along with the DeKalb Fire Department.
