Woodstock Arts and Culture Fund awards nearly $12,000 in grants for local artists

The Woodstock Arts and Culture Fund, a new fund managed by the Community Foundation for McHenry County, announced its list of awards for 2022.

Seven Woodstock nonprofits were set to receive awards totaling $11,950 to help them employ local artists and support cultural venues. Ten applications were received by the fund with a maximum grant request of $2,500 apiece.

The Arts and Culture Fund awards included $2,500 to Theatre 121, $2,000 to Off Square Music, $1,950 to the Woodstock Folk Festival and $1,000 each to the Woodstock Community Choir, the Woodstock Fine Arts Association and to the Free Guitars 4 Future Stars program.

“We hope that residents and businesses continue their support by donating to the fund to keep it strong,” Woodstock Arts and Culture Fund chair Terry Willcockson said in a statement last month. “We plan to showcase an event for awardees in the coming months to further encourage and celebrate Woodstock’s fabulous artistic talents.”

The Arts and Culture for Woodstock Fund was established in 2021 by Woodstock community members to honor the arts and culture contributions of Woodstock’s longest-serving mayor, Brian Sager, upon his retirement.

Ongoing tax-deductible donations are accepted online at thecfmc.org or by contacting Lyndsey Thompson at lyndsey@thecfmc.org.
