Adventure Works offers Little Adventurers program

DeKALB – Beginning this September, Adventure Works will offer a nature-based kindergarten readiness program known as Little Adventurers.

The program serves children ages 4 to 5 years old and is open for enrollment. It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday morning at Adventure Works, 1211 Sycamore Road. in DeKalb. Parents can register by calling 815-517-0825. The introductory rate for the program is $30 per day and scholarships are available based on a sliding fee scale.

Little Adventurers is accredited by the Association of Experiential Education and centers around a curriculum that utilizes nature play and exploration to build social skills, emotional awareness and regulation, as well as the foundation of environmental awareness and accountability.

Children will be encouraged to collaborate with one another, problem-solve, foster their imaginations and get messy. The Little Adventurers Program will use a newly redesigned outdoor area called YEP! Free Play Space. This space is named after the group, Youth Engaged in Philanthropy, which provided grant funding to support this initiative. YEP is in its 11 th year as a youth-led committee of the DeKalb County Community Foundation.

Adventure Works is an accredited for-purpose outdoor behavioral health organization for youth and families. Founded in 2010, its mission is to guide youth in overcoming life challenges through adventure-based counseling and education. In addition to counseling, Adventure Works also offers Positive Youth Development groups in the community and in local schools to encourage healthy risk-taking and to nurture positive behaviors.
