Two DeKalb men charged with dog fighting, hitting pitbulls

SYCAMORE – Two DeKalb men have been charged with making two pitbulls fight each other outside a DeKalb apartment, and face charges of animal cruelty.

Brown Thomas Jr., 30, and Mustafa Ramzon, 22, both of the 800 block Edgebrook Drive, are each charged with dog fighting and cruelty to animals. If convicted of the most serious crime of dog fighting, the pair could face three years in jail and fines up to $250,000.

According to DeKalb County court records, DeKalb police were called to the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive around 1:30 a.m. Saturday due to reports of dogs fighting.

Video taken by a neighboring resident who shared it with police showed Thomas, Ramzon and a third man bring two pitbulls out into the west vestibule of the building.

One of the men could be heard shouting ‘Get ’em” multiple times in the video, police said, adding that they also heard loud squealing and crying coming from the dogs in the video.

Police saw one of the pitbulls bite the other one’s neck, and Ramzon hitting one of the dogs three times with a leash, court records state.

After a short while, the dogs were separated by two of the men, and video showed that one of them could be hearing saying, “Stop playing with my dog. On my way baby, he will kill that [expletive].”

When the dogs were separated, Ramzon and the third man began laughing, and Ramzon then grabbed one of the dogs by the neck to pull it out of the vestibule.

Additional video from the apartment complex helped police identify the three men, records show.

Ramzon has not yet been booked into DeKalb County Jail.
