UPDATE: One person dead, two others injured in midnight shooting in DeKalb, says police chief

DeKALB – One person is dead after a shooting in DeKalb’s north side late Sunday, confirmed interim DeKalb Police Chief John Petragallo.

Petragallo said there are two other victims who suffered gunshot wounds in the shooting, and were taken to nearby hospitals, though did not disclose their names or condition. The DeKalb Police Department is working with the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s office on the investigation. He did not confirm whether an arrest was made in connection with the incident, or whether there was more than one shooter.

“We’re still actively pursuing leads,” Petragallo said. “But there’s no reason to believe there’s a threat to the public.”

Petragallo said DeKalb police responded to a shots fired call shortly before midnight Sunday at an apartment in the 900 block of West Hillcrest Drive.

“Upon arrival, the officers located a gunshot wound victim, and started the investigation,” Petragallo said. “At this point, we’ve identified all parties involved.”

DeKalb police pursued a suspect who fled the apartment. They managed to stop the car on Plank Road and then found two additional people in the car who had gunshot wounds.

Petragallo did not say which of the victims was the deceased, but more information will be made available later today.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department assisted, he said.

This is ongoing report. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
